kata hati: conscience

Kata Hati i_Bryony&Bloom.jpg

Delighted to share a photo of the first finished painting in a new series, Kata Hati (‘conscience’). The work is inspired by my visit to a Bornean orangutan sanctuary two years ago and the combined experience of witnessing forest destruction first hand, close contact with magnificent orangutans (many of which are sadly unable to be released back into the wild), and joy of trekking through primary rainforest, discovering plants and landscapes I had never seen before.

The trip was eye-opening and transformative for me personally, politically and artistically. I’m currently working on several other paintings in this collection, also inspired by textile patterns and colours found throughout the Indonesian islands.
